Offers support and information for families from diagnosis to adulthood through family support, seminars, community training and social opportunities for those affected with ASD. They also hold monthly parent support groups.
Offers a summer camp called S.T.A.R. (Students Together Achieving Respect), that serves all individuals with any type of disability. Camp is staffed with intervention specialists, a movement specialist and college interns. It blends academic, recreational and social skills lessons to promote individual camper growth. A support group for adults ages 18-25 with Asperger’s or high functioning autism. The group is typically held at the Kent Student Center or the group will go out to a restaurant in the area. Empowering Epilepsy is a non profit 501c3 public charity organization promoting the empowerment of people with epilepsy and their families. Their mission is to enable people with epilepsy to take charge of their lives. They hold monthly support groups in both the Cleveland and Akron areas, conferences and awareness events to bring people with epilepsy together and discover ways to live well with epilepsy. Their main goal is for people with epilepsy to realize that they do not have to go through this alone. There are many others who experience epilepsy and understand the trials and tribulations people with epilepsy have experienced. VIP supports and encourages children, siblings, families and individuals challenged by disabilities. It provides an appropriate and supportive Christian setting for children and students with special needs so parents can comfortably attend worship.
Kids can be placed in the traditional Grace Church POWER Kids with one-on-one assistance, as needed (VIP Buddy Ministry), or participate in a special classroom (VIP POWER Kids) that includes a higher ratio of teachers and helpers. This program is for children ages 5 and up.
Grace Church also offers a monthly support group and a quarterly respite VIP Night Out for parents.
