For parents and professionals who work with children with autism, dealing with negative behaviors is often the most challenging aspect. Negative behavior can interfere with communication, socialization, and academics. Some children’s behavior limits their involvement with typical peers, stigmatizes them, or even creates a danger to themselves or others. It does not have to stay that way! During this session, “Be Prepared! Practical Behavior Management”, participants will learn ways to reduce negative behavior and improve their child’s life. Participants will learn about the four functions of behavior which explain why the behavior is happening. For each behavior, the participants will learn possible functional alternatives to replace that behavior. The key to changing behavior is to prevent it from happening instead of jumping in after it has occurred. In other words….the key is to be prepared!
